Intuitive Eating and Subtle Shifts for Optimal Health with Holly Goodwin

Intuitive Eating

Four years ago you would find me with my food scale weighing out my spinach. Yes, you read that right. Spinach. I was doing a keto diet for my bikini competition without a period, very low body fat and living in a state of complete adrenal fatigue, extremely sore and tired all of the time. Towards the end of my prep, I would get confused as to where I was and felt like I was losing brain cells by the minute but my body fat was low and I looked fantastic. Was it worth it? HECK NO!

I wanted to bring Holly Goodwin on because she and I have similar stories. She competed and was a fitness model with a similar protocol for always being lean and falling into the dark cycle of being perfectly fit all year long.

Intuitive Eating

Imagine trusting your body enough to be the weight it is supposed to be. Imagine knowing how hard to push your workout and how much you should eat after you workout. Imagine if you could listen to your own gut to know what was up. This is intuitive eating.

Intuitive eating by definition is a nutrition philosophy based on the premise that becoming more attuned to the body’s natural hunger signals is a more effective way to attain a healthy weight, rather than keeping track of the amounts of energy and fats in foods.

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • How being on a diet all the time is messing up with your metabolism and why you need breaks
  • Why trusting your body unconditionally is the ONLY diet you should go on
  • How we both competed and what it REALLY looks like (it’s not what you think)
  • Why YOU need to go on a social media detox if you are having body image issues

Some Questions I Ask:

[10:52] When we chatted you were telling me about your fitness journey, can you tell the listeners what that looked like in the beginning..what is being a bikini competitor really like

Fit Fierce and Fabulous Podcast

  • I have tried a lot of different types of diets for a healthy digestive system, but realized that as I walk through the grocery store and look at foods my tummy speaks to me by contracting or feeling yucky when the food is unhealthy for me. The intuition was there all along.

    • YES its so true, honestly once you tune in, it makes it so much easier to make healthy decisions !

  • Christie Moeller

Girl I have done the world tour of dieting! This makes so much sense! Great episode. I have started eliminating things that make me feel yucky- even though they may taste good I know I”ll pay for it later- and its working!

I need to work on listening to my body when I am eating. Sometimes I am in such a rush with the kids I just shove goodness in my mouth without any thought or even enjoying it! Great post.

  • What a great topic! I am slowly learning to listen to my body when it comes to my food needs. Recently, I discovered I can’t eat onions anymore because my body reacts really badly after eating them. Also, I’ve been craving veggies, but haven’t been eating them. It is interesting that our body knows what it wants and needs to function. I need to start listening to those cravings. Thanks for the great podcast.

  • Wow, you really make me think a lot about listening to the subtle hints. Cravings are always a sign, that much is true and your body knows what you need, just need to really listen. Thanks for the reminder!

  • ObsessiveCookingDisorder
