Foods for Glowing Skin

At the age of 12 I started using Mac Studio Fix Powder because my face was SO broken out I was embarrassed to leave the house. I had eruptions on my skin, I had pores the size of craters and my confidence levels were at an all time low because I had huge GIGANTIC PIMPLES!

It might shock you that I ate fast food everyday and that I also consumed loads of sugar all day EVERYDAY, but these disturbing statements are TRUE and is why I am so passionate about living and leading a healthy lifestyle now.

When I entered high school, I always had acne and looking back it was most likely because all I consumed was Del Taco, McDonalds, and greasy pizza. Your skin is your largest organ and will tell you how your insides are doing if you just pay attention. There is actually a Chinese Medicine method called Facial Mapping which tells you why you break out in certain areas, some is related to stress, hormonal imbalances and even food related.

My breakouts were pizza style, just like the pizza I was eating and I later found out I am intolerant to dairy and the amount of grease and chemicals I was consuming was unknown. Because I now understand my body, I listen to myself and will know within a day if that mystery taste in my dinner the other night was in fact dairy related because there it will be, a nice pimple.

4 Foods for Glowing Skin

Here are some foods you should add to your diet to create a healthier skin tone and get rid of that acne:

+Avocado: This green goddess contains the fats essential for cell rejuvenation which is essential for the building blocks of new skin. I notice that when I eat more avocados my skin becomes plumper, MOVE over fillers, I have green goodness! I start every morning with ¼ an avocado with my egg omelette for a kickstart to my day.

+Grapeseed Oil: I started using grape seed oil to remove my makeup until I found out that it contains oligomeric procyanidins which improves skin’s elasticity. I love adding a bit of grapeseed oil to my vegetables, the great thing about grape seed oil is it doesn’t smoke when cooked on high heat.

+Apricots: Juicy apricots are the best when they are season. Rich in phytochemicals, they contain folate, calcium, vitamins a & c, iron and potassium which provide the vitamins to promote collagen. An easy snack to throw in your bag and chopped apricots on your salad is the BOMB!

+Brazil Nuts: I eat a few Brazil Nuts everyday to keep my thyroid at bay. Brazil nuts have a wealth of benefits including a nice dose of selenium and helps promote skin moisture which prevents sun damage. Eat 3 (100 calories) a day to promote skin moisture. I add a bit of Himalayan Sea Salt before enjoying.

Bonus #5:

+Cucumbers: Juicy cucumbers not only provide a small dose of hydration but they contain tons of Vitamin C and manganese necessary for increasing collagen production. I love adding a stick of cucumber to my green juices, snacking on them with hummus and chopping some up in my salad.
Add these items to your grocery list and start seeing results as soon as 4 weeks! I noticed that understanding what your body is intolerant to helps out as well so you can cut back on those foods and see results even quicker! Mother Nature always provides a solution and is so much cheaper than those facial creams and a great way to add stuff to your salads and snacks!
