When I started going to the gym the only reason I walked in there was to widdle my middle and work off the wine I guzzled the night before otherwise I had no other purpose and I literally hated every moment of it. Funny to think that I became a Personal Trainer after being someone who dreaded the thought of going to the gym and running on a treadmill for an hour!

4 Ways to Fall in Love with Your Workout

One thing I teach to anyone that asks me how to enjoy fitness or make it more exciting is to explain how getting fit and healthy should be done not to lose weight or drop the saddle bags but to think of it as:

“YOUR TIME to do something fabulous for YOURSELF and to feel the endorphins from the workout.”

As a fitness expert I can list the best ways to get to your goals, but at the end of the day if you hate pumping iron next to a bunch of dudes or if the thought of dancing and shaking it to a mix of pop hits makes you want to run and hide, then you need to look and find what keeps you excited and makes you HAPPY. When you find that specific activity then your results will happen because you will be consistent with the class or exercise program.

When the purpose of your gym time becomes about YOU and not about weight loss, fat loss or stomach loss this time will suddenly become FUN and not a bore or a drag or an appointment you make every excuse to miss..it becomes a part of who you are. Crazy to think but it really is that simple..become the girl who goes to yoga three days a week, become the chick who can squat her bodyweight or be that girl who is a gym junkie and forces her friends to join along for the ride..this is YOUR choice and there is never an excuse to not do YOU!

Here are 4 Ways to Fall in Love With Your Workout

  • Train for an Event: Signing up for a 5 or 10k may seem like a long shot but when you have a goal to complete a task you start to tell your friends, co-workers and family about it and training for a goal makes things more challenging which in turn keeps you going to the gym for more. I trained for a 5k after getting my wisdom teeth pulled out with my girlfriend and we had a blast training for it and rocking the event! It was a fun and challenging way to complete a goal and it felt great telling people I had completed a 5k all year long!
  • Join Meetup and Find a Fitness Group: The 3 F’s all in one, new friends, FUN and fitness all within a few clicks of a button. If you log onto http://www.meetup.com no matter where you are in the world you can find groups of people doing all kinds of activities together. I personally started a bootcamp in Bangkok called Bangkok Babes (check it out here) in order to meet new friends and have some new workout buddies to make sweating in the city fun!
  • Class Hop: Not sure what type of class you would even like? Why not class hop? Use a website like Groupon or Living Social and look for studios around town offering 3 class passes or even search for studios offering free trials. Mark your calendar to try three classes a week for the next month and get going on finding your new favorite workout.
  • Reward Yourself: You know those new Nikes you see all over Instagram that are just screaming your name? Or how about a 1 hour Swedish massage to crank out the soreness from all the hard work you have put in at the gym? Well why not make your very own reward system and reward yourself for your accomplishments at the gym or for just going three times that week to the gym? Rewards are VERY motivating and if you write the EXACT reward on your calendar and what you have to do to earn it, it just might make you run right to the gym!

Again, make fitness apart of your life, make it something that you put in your calendar a few times a week and make it about YOU! Focusing positive energy into your workout regime not only takes the blah out of a boring workout but it makes the gym your new happy place and who doesn’t want to be surrounded by positivity!
