Shopping, eating + MORE SHOPPING…that was my plan upon arrival!
Bangkok is a MECCA for fashion, style + literally ANYTHING you can think of..I mean you can even buy a tiger.
My experience thus far has led me to creating this guide:
Terminal 21 (BTS station exit: Asoke OPENS 10 am-10 PM EVERYDAY)
Every floor is dedicated to a country so think Japan, Istanbul, Greece, England, America, San Fransico
MBK (BTS station exit: National Stadium: OPENS 10 am-10 PM EVERYDAY)
I spoke of MBK on my Bangkok Food Post, and briefly mentioned the shopping…Electronics are the main focus at MBK and the accessories you can only imagine are so crafty, I would never have to pick up a glue gun again. From hello kitty crystalized iphone covers to a new cover for my Nexus 7 Tablet (impossible to find BTW) MBK has it and has quality items + tons of selections! Beyond the electronics if you ever wanted a pirated DVD, CD or Software Program you can find these for under $10.00! I am still a sucker and will pay full price (womp womp..) Clothes + beauty supplies are also of abundance but watch out with the clothing because its a ONE SIZE FITS ALL situation, which works well for me since I am the size of a Thai woman.
Siam Square (BTS station exit: Siam: OPENS after 6 PM EVERYDAY)
Shown in these photos are just some of my purchases from the night market! Not everything is shown as I am gifting several friends + family some goodies and do not want to give anything away 😉
I have a hard time finding belts, unless I look in the child’s section which of course looks like a child’s belt so I was SO happy to find several booths with nice leather belts! They even cut and puncture a hole into whatever belt you want and for only 59 baht which is about $2.00. Things at this market are so unbelievably inexpensive you have to stop yourself from overloading your suitcase!
SIDE NOTE: The blow dryer is from MBK! My blow dryer blew out a whole floor in Hanoi so I had to buy a new one because hotel blow dryers do not cut it :/ Best blow dryer EVER, it packs a 2000 ION blast and dries my luscious locks in 10 minutes or less!
Since I have a hard time eating street food after my food poisoning epidemic it was nice to see the Siam Paragon next door which I explain below 🙂
Siam Paragon (BTS station exit: Siam: Opens 10 am-10 pm EVERYDAY)
Gucci, Fendi, Fendi, Louis, Louis, Prada..anything you WANNA! The beautiful Siam Paragon is chalk full of every designer shop you can imagine. High-end designer stores line the streets of Bangkok but if you want to find them all under one roof than the Paragon is where you go! The bottom floor has an aquarium (which I did not visit) and a vast array of foods in their two story food court. Due to my food poisoning, I opted to find a smoothie that did not contain Yogurt or Milk. If you can believe it, this is almost IMPOSSIBLE due to the nature + taste buds of the Thai. The ice they use is soaked in condensed milk so even when you say no yogurt, no milk they use ice that has it dripping + add more sugar to the mix! I finally found a Juice Mart that had an Acai Berry Smoothie which had banana, strawberries, acai + spinach! I was so happy, you can see it in my face 🙂
Chatuchak-Market (BTS station exit: WEEKENDS)
My hubby and I ventured out to the Chatuchak market on a Wednesday which is unusual as this market is a “weekend” market. Known as one of the world’s largest weekends markets, the Chatuchak market is 30 acres in size. Want to own a tiger, a monkey or an antique crown? This is the place to go. You can literally purchase ANYTHING. In this market, money can buy you ANYTHING.
At the end of this video I show some behind the scenes footage of the Chatuchak Market. This footage was VERY difficult to get as it was not busy and security was EVERYWHERE! Cameras not aloud anywhere so sorry if its a bit wobbly 🙂
If you could buy ANYTHING and money was not an issue, what would you buy?
